About the Department

The Department of Differential Equations (DDE) was established in 2007, succeeding the Division of Differential Equations. As of October 2025, the department employs 26 staff members, including 1 full professor and 6 associate professors. Since November 2024, Prof. Krzysztof Ciepliński has been the head of DDE, succeeding Prof. Maciej Capiński.

DDE staff teach students from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics as well as other faculties at AGH University of Krakow.

The research of DDE staff focuses primarily on dynamical systems and ergodic theory, with various aspects explored by M. Capiński, K. Ciepliński, M. Foryś-Krawiec, R. Kapica, O. Karpel, and P. Potorski. Other areas of interest include:
- differential equations (M. Capiński, J. Jendrej, L. Sapa, and V. Vladimirov),
- numerical analysis (M. Capiński and L. Sapa),
- functional equations (K. Ciepliński, E. Jabłońska and R. Kapica),
- general topology (E. Jabłońska and O. Karpel),
- differential algebra (E. Adamus).

Most DDE researchers are part of the Research Group on Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems, led by Prof. M. Capiński.

DDE staff organize international scientific conferences. The most significant one was the Dynamics, Equations and Applications conference. Other events include the Mathematics in Technical and Natural Sciences conference series, the Dynamical Systems, Difference and Functional Equations conference, and, more recently, the jointly organized conference From Topology to Computations in Dynamical Systems in collaboration with the Institute of Computer Science and Computational Mathematics at Jagiellonian University.
